Surviving Tradition: As part of a preliminary survey, the photographer and his team were exploring the dense forests of the Mishmi Hills in the heart of winter when a loud bang reverberated through the forest. Intrigued, they made their way towards the source of the sound and found a few young boys making a quick meal of a Yellow-billed Blue Magpie. On the condition of anonymity, the photographer was permitted to document the hunt. The boys opened up about their traditional hunting customs for the pot, providing a deeper insight into their lifestyles. Here, they eagerly wait for their meal – the magpie’s feathers were burnt off and the meat turned into a stew flavoured with salt and a forest-grown spice.
