Yogendra’s Inexpensive Macro Tactics
Robber flies never disappoint me. They’re such a majestic creatures, their muscular bodies and ability to prey on insects sometimes double their size is fascinating. I found this one on the banks of Mula-Mutha river in Pune. Making the background completely black at will is another important trick in macro photography. If you can make sure that your flash does not fall on the vegetation behind the insect (by controlling the flash output) you can get perfectly black background even when shooting in broad daylight.
Taken with Canon SX50 (point and shoot) + Raynox + pop-up flash and home-made paper plate diffuser.
