The social behaviour of the unique goat-like Nilgiri tahr is little-known. This is perhaps because the animals are extremely shy and that study in their inhospitable, rain-lashed, wind-swept homeland is often almost impossible. Tahr move in large herds feeding and resting in the grassy downs of the green hills, and the rocks above.
