Crab Spider by Yuwaraj Gurjar
A male crab spider Thomisidae attempts to copulate with a female that has injected its prey, a honey bee, with its deadly poison, which will liquidate its insides. On the now dead bee we can still see several smaller bees and fruit flies that had come to steal food from the pollen baskets of the larger bee. That’s not all. The white pupa visible on the abdomen of the dead bee confirms that it had already been parasitised by a wasp before she was hunted down by the female crab spider. Almost no image that has graced the pages of Sanctuary better exemplifies one of nature’s most elementary truths – you either eat, or get eaten!
