Damselfly by Tasneem Khan
The mating and egg-laying rituals in damselflies (Order: Odonata) are utterly fascinating. The male grasps the female by her thorax using his terminal abdominal appendages and continues to do so even after the sperm packet is successfully transferred, in a bid to dissuade other males from mating with her. Males of some species go further and accompany the female underwater as she anchors her eggs on.
