Special Mention: MAHESH REDDY – ‘Pick a Bone’
‘Pick a Bone’ This image of an Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus was taken at Hesaraghatta, the last surviving grassland near Bengaluru. Also called the White Scavenger Vulture or Pharaoh’s Chicken, this small Old World vulture feeds on carrion, and the photographer came upon it as it was trying to pick meat off a large bone early one morning. Opportunistic feeders, the birds will readily take small mammals, birds, and reptiles, as well as the eggs of other birds. Naturalists report seeing these intelligent creatures using stones and pebbles as tools to break tough large eggs to get at their soft insides.
